Strout

ON SPIRITUAL MATURITY by Mary Rocamora

As we go deeper into the field of awareness, we encounter the mutable, seemingly paradoxical nature of the structure of the inner world and our movement through it, going from trapped states to free states. What used to feel true now feels like it's just an old story, repetitious and confining.

Awareness is less and less interested in the known than in exploring how life could be experienced in the vast unknown of now. It is that quality of fascination, that increased willingness to have a raw, naked experience of life without our patterns in tow that accelerates movement toward a more sustainable experience of the free state.

What life presents is the 'meditation practice,' thereby integrating our spiritual intentions into our everyday reality. This requires us to finally grow up spiritually and develop a solid trust in our own ability to access what is true, rather than rely on being dependent children at the feet of "teachers.'

Truth is simply what feels right in the moment we access it. This pertains to specific life challenges as well as to views in the field of awareness at a deeper level.

Truth, rather than being viewed as something fixed, is experienced as views from within the field of awareness. These views are based on a felt-sense or a knowing that becomes more refined and distinct as we practice using awareness to recognize specific inner states.

The authority for truth must now reside in each of us, not in a teacher, an institution, or a body of spiritual knowledge.

We must now take on the personal responsibility for finding our own way to the love within us. A heightened level of integrity and acuity of observation take the place of deferring to spiritual authority figures.

Our motivation, while initially egocentric, must eventually evolve beyond that to embrace a larger spiritual role in life.

Mary Rocamora is the founder and director of The Rocamora School (Los Angeles, California), which provides transformational classes in awareness training to enhance inner development.
