Welcome to :-) Creative Writing for the Web

This page has been created by your tutor, Jeremy S Gluck, on his webspace, using Microsoft Front Page 98. It is an online guide to some of the resources relevant to (and sometimes used to construct) this course. If you are online at home or work, or have access to an online PC, then do access this page between sessions and explore some of the resources provided. Together in the coming weeks we can build an online showcase for the work we do together. Work submitted to me (preferably on floppy disk) can be added to this site! Please feel free to contribute as and when you wish and I will post your material as the course progresses, providing an ongoing resource for sharing and, after the course ends, a reference site for future use. If you are interested in and need help in constructing a page like this to showcase your work, CV or other material and I will be more than happy to advise you.

I hope that you enjoy and benefit from this course!

Yours sincerely, Jeremy S Gluck

In this course the Internet will be used as:

  • a source for readings. Our chief "text" is the Internet, the largest linked system of text in the world. There are writings available on almost any imaginable topic on the Internet, and some of these will be selected (and sometimes found by you) for class use.
  • a handbook. The Internet contains a wealth of material for writers to get help on grammar, word choice, style, and other writing skills.
  • a forum to practice writing. On the Internet, your writing must speak for itself. You can't use body language, a smile, or tone of voice to make a point. The written word is the communication for most activities, and participants know each other primarily by their writing.
  • a communication system linked to millions. The Internet allows students to correspond with the instructor and with each other via e-mail. It also allows students to join interest groups, such as listserves, related to writing and other topics of interest.
  • a window to the future. The skills you practice on the Internet, skills such as retrieving and reading electronic information, communicating via e-mail, and collaborating over a network, will give you a head start on the kinds of skills needed for working and living in the Information Age.
